A month or so back I got a call from a chap saying he was from Northants Police publicity dept, asking if I would be interested in advertising in there magazine. It was only £95 inc VAT and would be dished out by the police and to various homes. I thought well that's not allot of money and might get a few police station jobs etc. So time goes by and I keep getting calls from withheld numbers hi its whoever from the police, the are publishers going to ring you to confirm ra ra ra, So just before I went on holiday I made a verbal agreement over phone, and thought I would sort this out on my return from holiday.

I came home to 3 separate invoices from

BCS Media - Community Magazine bringing you useful safety advice and news

Blue Line Publictions -Frontline magazine (complete with two police officers on cover)

and

Digital Jupiter - Crime prevention journal

So I rang all 3; who are you? why do I have three companies all police related magazines all based in liverpool?

I'm cancelling not paying

They all replied not herd of the other companies and are in no way related, but you owe me £100 if you dont pay, debt collectors etc

Rang local police and they in no way indorese these and just a scam

all invoices are being forwarded to trading standards

so if you get any magazines affilliated to the police or fire service there a scam,

Glad I never paid them any thing

Never pay anything to this lot, ever. When I handed over the case to Trading Standards they had enough to prosecute them. Even if you verbally agree to an advert with them, you have a cooling off period in which you can back out with no charge. On odd occasions they even send out "court summons" if you get one of these, simply call the courts to verify it, most of these are fake, and to issue one is a serious criminal offence. As has been said many times before, use your answerphone to screen calls, ignore calls from numbers you arent expecting from outside your usual area, and if in any doubt, contact ConsumerDirect, who will then pass the case onto Trading Standards. Treat your phone like a door, only let those in who you want in.

Anything with a scouse accent is a scam :001_rolleyes:

:laugh1:

Gotta agree there LAR!!

How are these people still trading and not locked up for fraud:confused1:

This scam has been going on for years and loads of people musta reported them!

Funnily enough though, all these scheme/scams seem to be picking up pace again now, they had been very quite over the last 12-18 months ie I used to get loads of these calls but not recently.
