Splicing,Good or bad??

One of the boys at work has just had this AP spliced,Im no expert but im not sure it correct??

The whipping inparticular can be seperated with a finger nail.

The splice in question is the one with the black whipping and the other to compare it with is done by drewb,

 

What are your thoughts on this?still ok to use?

i prefer the 1 on the right eh drew.it all depends on what his construction process was adam,if in doubt,chuck it out

I'm no expert i prefere the other one because it will hold tight on the karabiner, There seems to be an awful lot of black whipping on it too:confused1: compered to ones i've see before. Just looking at it i wouldn't buy it.

I would get a new spliced one by someone you trust and then test the other to destruction or get someone to remove whipping and inspect.

But you shouldn't be able to lift the whipping it should be really tight, I am no expert though but it just looks a little odd.

yes done with the first whipping in that link.

Its not the whipping I'd wory about its the bury, the original splice has a nice even taper, the new one has a lumpy look to it like the bury has been cut short or not seated properly.

undo the whipping and decide how nice and smooth the bury is

if in doubt dont use it

but tbh i believe a good splicer should be able to whip looking a better job than that
