My L200 build

i'll see what the local 4x4 breakers have. Just a curiosa but is it possible to get some sort of valve that allows you to run two rams separately off the one pump? Just asking as I might build my own towable hydraulic log splitter some day and was wondering if I plumbed in a hydraulic hose running from the tipping gear to the back of the L200, I could then connect up the splitter and run it off the pickup?

yes just put a valve in that you can manually open and close interesting idea

Bad idea

Electric pump tank tipper units are only single acting and don't have the duty cycle needed for that application

Would a 5.5hp Briggs and Stratton petrol engine power a duty cycle ram suitable for a small portable log splitter?

The duty cycle refers to the machine as a whole rather than the ram.

A motor that size will certainly power a small splitter provided its matched to an appropriately sized pump.

If you are serious about putting a hydraulic system on the L200 go engine driven. A small chassis mounted reservoir with an oil/water intercooler ,a three port solenoid diverter valve and that will give you your tipper, future winch and auxiliary splitter hydraulics at the flick of a switch. You dont need new because this stuff comes up s/h all the time, this is just an example.

interesting food for thought aspenarb. Well the guy who offered to sell me parts of his spare L200 has finally agreed to sell the whole thing, its a 2002 4life with a cooked engine. Before starting to pull the engines out and swop them over I was going to have a go at fixing the cooked engine. I was thinking of taking the head and provided the bores are good, having it skimmed and a new gasket fitted, then pressure tested. What other damage should I check for?
