How hard is it to learn to weld?

Few years back an eco company building newt traps had a problem with the welder they had hired.
They asked me to have a look.
Mig setup fine, gas on, welds were fizzing, then when cool, the weld crumbled like a crunchy bar.
Never seen anything like it.
Several minutes of head scratching later, I realised the hire company had sent a bottle of pure oxygen.
F*ckwits.

I have learnt that good tradesmen make a job look simple and almost as though anybody can do it but in reality, when you try to do it yourself, it isn't quite as easy as you had thought it to be.

I find that sometimes, these tradesmen forget the years of experience they have gained and the value this has to their customers.

In my experience, the guys that are most vocal are the ones that don't know and the ones that smile from a distance are the ones with the true knowledge....just saying!
