Straightening a Bar

I've got a 15"Sugi Hara Light Type with plenty of good metal on it. Nose is great and I don't think it's twisted but it is slightly bent. Is it possible to straighten these bars or is it a new bar? I've a Husky bar I can be using in the meanwhile but I prefer SH.

Can't really give an answer but I doubt that it could be done without heat. Kinda hard to apply the type of pressure needed to flatten it without it springing back?

Set it on 2 bricks or similar with the bend centered and stamp on it, I straightened a solid Sugi bar (15") that way and it took a few pretty heavy stamps to sort it. Just keep checking it with a straight edge.

 

Sounds really un -technical and it is just that but it works.

Sorted a couple of bent Sugi bars, they are tough but they will straighten in a press if you take your time

You're not joking, I'm about 10 1/2 stone, you can guess how hard I was stamping on it, a press if you have one or cobble something together with a bottle jack. Any way you do it amounts to the same thing, force it into a reverse bend, check, repeat until it's straight (enough)

steel is quite springy by nature so you might have to bend it the other way a bit to get it to true up.... I bent my sugi bar pretty badly right at the point at which the bar is clamped by the chainsaw side case.

tried to sandwich it between two pieces of steel in a vice, but it wasnt having any of it. Though a bit of heat may have helped...

 

Sugi bars are definitely made of decent quality steel though, without a doubt. really needed to hang off of it to make it bend!
