Sparkplug on 346 keeps coming loose

Saw started staling and found the plug completely loose. Tightened it up and same happened again. On close inspection the thread in the block is slightly damaged but not wrecked. Wary of really swinging off the socket when tightening so is there anything like thread lock that can be used for this purpose or do I need to look into helicoils?

If it were me, first id try and clean the threads up with the correct size tap, if that didnt work i would install an helicoil.

Forget threadlock, it probably wouldnt work and if it did it would be a botch job.

Thanks chaps. Not sure I fancy risking fitting a helicoil myself but looks like they will work on a striped hole so will tighten the sparkplug up a touch more and if all goes wrong get one professionally installed.

Helicoils are good Beau, and all I used until recently. They restore the thread, but not the seat, and a good seat is essential to a good seal.

 

But I now use 'timesert'. The fitting process of the timesert also provides a new seat square to the thread.

About all you can do is chase the thread out and if it fails, use a helicoil or insert!

Anyone know what torque the plug should be done up to?

I would say most would do it finger tight then put a wrench on it to nip it up so it is seated.

 

There is probably a spec in the manual but can't say I have ever needed it!
