bagging seasoned logs

i discovered big bagging non seasoned logs was a waste of time as they went mouldy, we emptied them out and have them stacked in an extremely windy site open sided and covered ontop, they are now dry. if i bag them up now will they go mouldy(these are not vented bags)

If they are subjected to wide variance in temperature, I would assume that condensation would form causing rotting to occur.

they will still be outside in a very open area. and now its going into winter i was hoping they wouldnt be sitting about for long

They should be fine mate, if they're dry now. Although I now sell "a bulk bags worth" rather than the bag itself, we just load em up loose and tip em off.

When you say the bags are unvented, are they totally enclosed or can water vapour escape when the temperature gets warm? I must admit that I missed the "big bagged" bit and was thinking you were doing something like poly-bags

builders bags not the fancy vented log bags of similar size. polly bags lol. have you ever tried to put logs in a polly bag??its like trying to pit privette into a bin bag:sneaky2:

Or toothpaste back in the tube LOL As long as there is some airflow, they should be fine. Like you say, they won't be hanging around for long anyway

stevie, get a stanley knife & cut 6, 6" slits on each face of the bag that gets the air circulating around the logs in the bags, iv done too mine dryes them a treat:thumbup:

Can you not bag say 20 at a time then when they have sold bag another 20 so they are never in the bags for too long a time.

I've been finding the same - the bottom layer or so is moldy even though the bags have been stored in the polytunnel all summer. Even worse if the bagging was done in the rain....

 

So I'm going to switch over to the posh vented ones and charge a £5 deposit on them. When they're stacked on a pallet I reckon that will make a huge difference.
