I was also surprised to see so much money being spent here on newt fencing alongside the new roads that are being built. I assume this is down to EU regulations. This leads me to wonder if the UK will still invest as much money in this sort of thing post brexit or if we will just say Sod the newts?

Poland became a free country 12 years before it joined the eu in 2004. I was visiting my family when Solidarity Kicked the Communist to the curb and last visited 2 years ago.

The changes to the overall infrastructure of the country have been astonishing to say the least. Many people believe that most of this effort was due to eu membership, however the polish people had 12 years on their own before the eu. Maybe the nearest hard wear was sold out of orange netting or safety tape?. I believe it will be up to the people that voted to be out of the eu to hold the government accountable. The people spoke once now they have to continue to follow through and keep the government in line.

Same protection as here, protect the stem from bucket damage whilst piling 10tonns of gravel on the root zone

At least the tree looks undamaged after!

The cheque will have cleared before damage becomes apparent anyway.
