I've decided to splash out a bit and get something to take the guess work out of sharpening. I can't justify mega bucks for a tormek or that end of the scale. But thinking somewhere in the £200-250 region.

I just think I need to be making life easier for myself while I'm still learning.

I'm looking for something that can cope with gouges as well as skews.

Thanks for any help, Mick

I've just gone for the sorby Proedge, expensive but supposedly the best. I've been trying with grinders and jigs for a year or so and never been happy with the cutting edge.

It's also great for normal chisels too and plane irons so I'll finally be referbing all my old planes I have accumulated lol

It'd be good to hear how you get on with that when it arrives

i think it's the robert sorby 445 fingernail profiler.

This was one of the options I've been looking at Steve. And upgrading the terrible grinder I bought off eBay haha

yeah will do, it arrives tomorrow :thumbup1:

I bit the bullet as I have limited time in the garage and was spending more time messing with jigs than turning, fingers crossed its good :)

Simple slow speed grinder with white wheels and the Robert sorby jig. Fast simple and a great edge straight off the grinder, really only takes seconds ans easily repeatable.
