I have a yew tree, dead standing, the main trunk is about a foot wide and about 4 foot tall then it splits to two limbs. Any good for a turner or just Xmas firewood? I haven't got a clue about turning wood. I've left it upright for a couple of years now but I'm clearing. Also some Holly trunks, not too thick but about 10" too. I don't won't to waste it in my stoves if it can go to someone who knows about this stuff.

The hobbyists are; the professionals are fine in my experience.

You must have well educated turners in East Anglia; I can't get them to so much as look at holly here - 'cracks too easily'; therefore I won't even consider it. I think they're under the impression that wood is a homogeneous, immoveable material, not organic with that dreaded 'character' to it.

Both good for turners. But be careful all wood turners are tight ar**d gits. 😉

it's a bit narrow minded of you to tar all of us with the same brush mate.

yes i'm happy to be given wood (which happens quite a bit once you are established) but i am more than happy to pay for good wood if i want it. lots of others are quite prepared to cough up for good wood too so please don't put us all in the same pigeonhole just because you may have had some less than ideal experiences with a few turners who are properly as you say "tight arsed"...

It was meant with a slight bit of humour. To get a bite from Stuart.

But I have spoken to a turner who has a fb page sells his products at a healthy price but won't pay for wood.
