I left my logging yard 3 years ago and have stopped selling logs

Do i have to pay back business rates if i get pulled up

My understanding is they can only go back to the beginning of the year.

I rent half a farm , house and workshops and store tractor and chipper in a shed , do you recon i would need to pay bussines rates on this

I think there if 100% rate relief on small businesses where the rateable value is low, so even if it is rateable, I don't think you would have pay anything.

Just bought a yard and registered for business rates, mine had a rateable value of 6k they wanted 2.7k for this financial year. Gave the number on the bill a call and spoke to them, they emailed me a form and put a note on my account to cover me until I returned the form applying for rates relief. I now have zero to pay. Local authority website is how I registered, there doesn't seem to be an easier way to avoid the to and fro however its not a long process.

I believe £6k and under is zero and it's a sliding scale between £6001 and £12k.

Only if you operate from a single rateable site. Get into a second site and you get nailed for rates on both as you are then considered to be a bigger business. There is a limit on single sites anyway, I think its a rateable value of 12k but might be wrong.

Was £6k on first site now it's £12k

So, if it's not worth a grand a month rent on the open market u won't have to pay rates
