Try banging an aluminum nail ( if there is such a thing ) into a bit of Holm Oak or similar !

These hobby conservationists have plenty of time and make a mornings project out of it. They can drill a tight hole.

I get paid relatively well to hang galvanized drop forged steel n stuff into trees just right!

If you can imagine it, it's probably been placed or left or blasted into a tree. If it's the first time you've hit a nail, there's only one real certainty, it won't be the last such occurrence.

I hit two today both buried about 3 inches under the cambium. One at waist height the other just above ground level. I assume there was a wire fence there at some point. But that's the first time in months so just one of those days.

Not as much as the chainsaw sent in to find them.

I've found all sorts in woods, cricket balls, marbles, the wise was a big iron bracket probably 6 inches long by 4 inches wide by probably half inch thick with 2 very thick and long coach bolts, also had iron and steel like small h sections in middle of trees where it was probably a fence post and tree just consumed it, obviously had dirt and stones in there, barbed wire is another thing I've come across
