iv been using 1, on a site were doing ,anyway new contracts manager has started & said this practice is now outlawed ,so any body know if this correct as got a beech on site we lines thru it & it make my day run smoother if i can get out off climbing it

They can be used under exceptional circumstances but not for planned or routing tasks.

A Telehandler may be used as a MEWP but the basket needs to be integrated so the controls can be used from the basket.

Working platforms (non-integrated) on forklift trucks - PM28

You will see that it is very unlikely any tree work would come under any of the exceptions.

As long as the tilt and crowd function can be locked off on the hydraulics it should be fine. A PLANT HIRE do man lifting cages for hire for this very purpose.

Does this apply to a pallet Timon:confused1: it seems to be a favorite with the climbers that cop free rides up a tree on our telehandler :blushing:

No you need to use baler twine for that application Bob. Although the baker twine must have a CE mark 😁

Bottom line, and as 'openspaceman' has commented, a tele-handler with a man-basket whilst an option is not generally deemed suitable for treework given the frequency and nature of works involved. Hence it is not specifically referenced in the Industry Code of Practice (ICoP) for Arboriculture...but MEWPs (primarily, and solely, designed as such) and mobile tower scaffolds for hedge work, are referenced.

Perhaps the real bottom line is if the contracts manager for the site says "NO" then that's the answer.

Cheers..

Paul
