pollard on young cherry?

Did a pollard on a young (about 25-20 year old) cherry in the middle of last summer and still have not seen ay buds growing or leaf. Is it still too early to see signs of this? Im guessing it is as hazel and other broadleaf trees ive coppiced this winter have not started growing yet.

 

Is this cherry i topped going to grow?

Cherry usually don't respond very well to hard pruning. Malus can cope with that kind of treatment. Not similar to laurel in that respect

It coppices so surely it would pollard also as this is essentially just a high coppice?

I may be wrong here, but i don't think cherry would respond very well if at all to being coppiced

Give it a bit more time. I've seen cherry send up sucker growth from a stump. It will probably come back but I doubt it will ever be a great specimen without a lot of time and gentler pruning in the future.

cherry should respond ok in my experience, a bit more time needed perhaps

Unfortunately its Doomed.... Majority I see that have been Pruned hard die back rapidly, Pollarding personally I would not of done and I won't touch them with a barge pole let alone a saw due to them being Finicky.

Its always a risk with cherry as they love to sucker from the roots when cut hard thus making the top redundant. Some sprout though.

Bird cherry (Prunus Padus) will sprout from a stump quite readily but as far as I know it's the only one of the cherry family to do this.
