These questions are gonna keep coming haha. But today I've had a piece that I basically couldn't turn. Either the Tailstock was too tight and the belt would slip, or too loose and the drive centre would spin in the wood. Obviously I could just use a faceplate but I think I need to get a live centre bought to replace the supplied one which is a fixed (dead?) type. Any suggestions as there seems to be quite a variety of styles about. Thanks again for all the help, Mick

If you get a running center make sure the body that contains the bearings is set well back from the point so that you can get the turning tool right in close

first of all mick you should not be using a tailstock with a non revolving centre for that purpose.

i suggest you get a hollow cup center as then it won't leave a great divot in the bottom of what you are turning.

a steb center would be best for drive but it can depend on the wood and how soft it is.

That hollow centre looks good mate. I was wanting the boring kit that record do but it's been discontinued for my lathe. The CL3 has been re designed not long after mine was bought and is now in 2MT

I picked up the Axminster hollow centre yesterday Steve. Hopefully have some spare cash next month to get an auger to go with it. I could have spent an absolute fortune walking round the Axminster outlet in Basingstoke yesterday :)
