just quoted a fence job -

Materials - 1700.

Wages - 450.

= 2250.

quoted at 3650

profit of 1400 over 4 days ( 350 per day )

Good or bad ?

350 a day is good IMO. Seems my rule of thumb works there as well, 1700 doubled is 3400 so not far out on your price, I would only have made 1150 profit though which I'd have been happy with..........

Some good advice here, I never price per metre for domestic work only commercial.

Get the cost of materials, add 20%, how long do you think job will take ? add labour. There's your price.

You WILL need a credit account with a fencing supplier, I never ask for money for materials up front as it looks unprofessional. On occasion I have got the clients to pay for materials direct if it was from a different supplier.

You won't get tree work money but I charge it out at 150.00 per man per day.

Avoid per mtr prices as it'll bite you in the arse one day.

Good luck.

meterage rates work ok providing you got good people and well maintained kit. i just come off a stock fencing job on my own, 1.2 miles i think it was and priced that per meter. left the yard with tractor and knocker at 6 am then got back when i couldnt see anymore. if ur prepared to work hard and i think it can be better than day rate.

You WILL need a credit account with a fencing supplier,

Why is that Matt?

Just curious but ive recently just done a large fence job, got all materials on VISA, then returned all unused and got credited back.

You might find in the present climate, opening an account with any supplier is very difficult.
