I have had some real problems with stihl km engines......interestingly I was told they would not honour the warranty unless i used genuine stihl hp two stroke and would not honour it if i ran it on aspen .........aspen told me the oposite but that came from stihl when i spoke to them direct.... my latest KM 130 has only ran on aspen for 6 months and is now playing up ,I know nothing to do with the fuel just because its junk and stihls standards are really slipping IMO !

We've had a few issues with our newer Stihl 4mix blowers (BR550/600) From what our local dealer has told us, I think stihl are recommending using their Stihl HP (not sure if he meant the Ultra or the Super must check)

Wonder if FR Jones know or have been advised?:confused1:

Hi Guys,

Running Aspen2 fuel in 4 mix motors should not be a problem. However if you run the Aspen 4 and mix it with the stihl 4mix oil then that should work just as good and will keep stihl happy that you use their recommended oil.

The most important thing to keep on top of with the 4 mix machines is that you constantly check the valve clearances. failing to do this may result in burnt out valve seats where the clearance has become too tight.

I had a 1960's Seagull outboard which ran on 16:1 mix, them things never wore out or seized but it left an oil slick on the water!!

Husky oil I used in my saws for years no probs, seen some Stihl at a good price and runs exactly the same both at 50:1

Just changed to Aspen 2T GREAT!!!!!!!!! very clean & smells good too

There is a danger of two-stroke engines running weak if there is too much oil in the mix. The extra viscosity coupled with the extra volume of the oil means less petrol per bang, which means weak mixture, overheating and possibly detonation.

I still have a lot of information on different oils from my two-stroke bike tuning days, one of the most important properties is film strength and even the best modern synthetics can't beat castor oil for this although they score with friction modifiers, octane boosters and additives that make the mix keep much better without gumming up your carb.

Chainsaws aren't highly tuned, so the oil doesn't have to do much, I'll bet Stihl and Husky are both pretty basic oils.

I just got reading my stihl handbook for 361/341 stihl,s and it,s only a year old stihl state use a 50:1 mix with stihl oil but mix 25:1 any othere brand oil ?
