I don't know the going rate but if you divide the cost of the bike (eg 7K) by 1000 you should get the cost of that. Hard work should be a max of 10L petrol an hour then just add your pay and a couple of quid for repairs and insurance.

Based on that I would charge £30, maybe 35, an hour (including £10 for myself) and a bit for transport.

A lot of contractors don't get that with expensive tractor and kit. Plus a heck of a lot more wear and tear parts.

I

That's a good point, tractors are only £30-40 an hour. I suppose quad work is more specialist and in smaller amounts though.

If it's a diesel quad you could knock a fair bit off.

Wish I could get 30-40 an hour for tractor round here, 23-25 is average, back to op's original question harrowing and rolling are usually charged by the acre I charge £6.50 an acre for harrowing but with 16 ft harrows on 100hp tractor I can cover 40-50 acres in a day. But with quad I would suspect you would be better on a price rather than hourly or acreage.

Was going to say exact same, some of the subby boys are running tractors for contractors at silage time for next to nothing, all they get is the diesel and any breakdowns/punctures is paid for themselves.

A good few years ago i was getting a higher hourly rate for myself fencing than a famer mate was getting running his tractor doing silage work.

Throu the winter doing hedge cutting most of the contractors are just keeping their men employed with little profit, rates are so low.

Will depend on the type of work, possibly if ur working for horsey folk with more cash than sense might get better rates, but would be surprised if many farmers would use a quad when u can use a tractor instead.

Think u can hire quads for 50ish a day + ur time +fuel+ transport etc

I assume that william127 is looking to fit a niche market, where as the jobs he takes on with his quad, are actually the jobs that people with bigger kit arn't actually interested in. This market is always going to command a premium, fundamentally the kit has to pay for itself and make a wage/profit, if it doesn't there's no point doing it.

I think I will try £30 an hour all in and see how it goes. All the kit has been bought for my own use and is paid for outright so it doesn't have to be used for the sake of using it, wearing it out for less profit than I get for using a load of hand tools fencing! Thanks for the responses.
