Best first pick up (cheap)

I'm looking for recommendations for a first pickup. Got about £4k to spend, so I'm thinking L200, Hilux or Ranger.

 

What stuff do I need to be looking for, are any more recommended than others?

 

Auto-trader, eBay or Gumtree?

 

Would like double cab for internal storage space and somewhere for the dog to sit.

Mazda, same as a Ranger but IME sold cheaper. I had a B2500 as my first pick up and it was great. I reckon your budget should put you in the BT50 price range.

Ranger or Mazda. I wouldn't got for a L200 and as brilliant as a hilux is I think they're overpriced (only IMO )

Another vote for the ranger, mines been good, had a new clutch tho, but I've just bought a transit tipper so it's for sale or shall I keep it as a spare truck?

Had an l200 new shape 06 from 68,000 to 93,000 (now) no problems, had new tyres and cambelt done but this the same on all vehicles

I'd definitely stay away from the MK1 Caddy.... It useless as an arb truck.

 

 

Personally, with a baby en-route, with the research I've done, I'm looking to get a Mazda, Ford as my first 'proper' pick-up.

(anyone want a mk1 caddy - 1.9TD AAZ conversion )
