There was an old saying about leccy stuff -

 

If you have to ask what it is, you shouldn't even think about doing it.

 

The main differences as voltages change would be

a) the speed of death

b) what is left for the coroner

If u don't know don't do it, I turn owt near leccy cables down as I am clueless, plenty more trees to work on.

DNO is Distribution Network Operator. Depends on where in the country you are, around here its either Western Power Distribution or Scottish and Southern.

 

Find out who it is (it may well be written on the base of one of the poles), and contact them asking for advice. They may do one of three things:

 

1. Cut the whole tree themselves (unlikely on LV ABC though).

2. Send a team out to gain a safe clearance around the lines, leaving you free to work.

3. Turn off the power for you to safely do the work yourself, and turn it back on when you have finished.

Get yourself on a UA1 and UA2 course. You'll know what to do the next time.

 

As already said, it's ABC cable. Low voltage. If you have to ask, you shouldn't go near it. Props for using caution.

I didnt do it in the end which was the right move.

I think i will have a look into it, i dont do any line clearance etc but better to have the knowledge and not need i say.

100% dangerous

 

I once landed a branch on an insulated power line when i was pollarding a willow on a windy day. It hung down and was crackling and smouldering away against the hedge bellow. Luckily a gust of wind fetched it down after a while.
