Brimmon Oak saved

Is there a report calculating the potential impacts of construction on the tree, and subsequent pollution? The road is going with 15mts, though will heavy goods vehicles be closer by, and how will the oak be protected (and will builders actually obey the regs and not jump inside the fence)?

Pardon the cynicism.

I agree with LO. My other thought was which side of the tree will the bypass be situated? Obviously on the wrong side may cast the tree into shadow for some portion of the year, which coupled with increased soot and particulates on the leaves would ultimately lead to lowering of potential photosynthetic area. All at a time when the tree is functionally slowing down, so presumably, this could combine create to an acceleration in senescence. I hope a sunlight assessment is included in this proposal (BS5837 recommends this - but will it be followed?)

Even at 15m distance, I feel the long term prognosis for the tree is not great...

Here is the landowners version of events with regards the tree

The first meeting I had with the developers was 5 years ago and they planned to demolish the tree then ,managed to talk them out of that plan on grounds the tree met so much to our family and was a great age ,then they told me the route was being altered and the tree was safe ,was happy with that ,then when I seen the plans I was concerned and requested at the pre inquiry meeting to put markers in the tree area where the route is going ,that was granted ,but only 4 days before the public inquiry ,the markers were so close (4m) from the trunk and had a site meeting with my agent and the contractors project manager to say the tree was in danger and his word to us that he would have to get a tree survey done ,I went away and had my own tree survey done at my own costs and produced it at the public inquiry ,they did not produce one ,the inquiry lasted 3 weeks ,I was on in the first week ,2 days before the inquiry ended they wanted permission to come on our land to do this tree survey and Radar and I granted them this request and I had these tree reports about a month after the inquiry had finished ,I am no tree expert but when you see the markers so close to the trunk and under the tree canopy I knew they would be going through the roots oft his tree .

Nice to see this tree saved. But it is mental that it took such a community to have to pull together to spare this beauty, when it is blatantly obvious that they could have avoided the tree by a huge distance either side.

Still don't expect the contractors to look at the tree as anything more than a nuisance.

Nice work people
