Tiny echo!

Hi another delighted user of the fabulous mini Echo!

I am very pleased with the standard .5 gauge, 10" bar and chain but very interested to hear that you have fitted a Stihl bar and chain. Did you need to mod the bar at all and which bar did you fit?

Many thanks

The bar and chain I used is that of the ms150 (1/4 .43) and yes it had to be modded. If you go back through this thread I have uploaded some pics with an explanation of how to do it if you fancy having a go. It does make a noticeable differance to cut speed

Thank you very much. I will have a close look at what you have done and see how I get on with the standard 10" bar.

I have only used the saw twice and already I am just tickled at how something so small can be so effective. I really like the simplicity of it but time will tell if it is reliable and durable.

But I have been using an Echo CS310 all week and that is a super little saw for ground work so the Echo omens are good.

First day out today with it fitted with the ms 150 bar and chain conie bashing and all I can say is wow. I loved my cs260tes but this thing blows it out of the water! Feels no heavier than my silky when on my harnes, very well balanced and ergonomic and it cuts like a beast. Easily handles bar length timber. Best of all, very little fatigue due to its light weight. I can see this saw getting some serious use

quick update to this thread, picked up the sprocket today (big thanks to radmore and tucker for supplying the bar/chain/sprocket for free) makes a massive difference with the carving bar. less vibes as well for some reason?

I did manage to bin the saw out of the tree on wednesday though, cracked casing around the exhaust and no other damage. from about 30+ ft up, bounced off tree (causing the damage) and then landed in a hedge (praise the lord)

seems to be a flaw in the clip on the back, it seems (on my saw anyway) you can push it in and then move it upwards away from where its supposed to be seated, so that its resting behind the air filter cover... im uploading a video to youtube now, and will get the link up here one its done...

had a look at an echo today at the shop, same model but must have been slightly newer because the clip was completely different, and couldn't be moved around in the same way.

check your saws guys!

has anyone else had this problem? looking around where the clip is mounted it doesnt look like anything is broken or missing.. i could be doing something wrong though? like i said it looks like the newer saws have a different clip which allows much less movement away from where it should be seated.

thanks !

I have just checked my saw and I must have the 'new' lanyard swivel as it won't move like yours. The two side prong ends of the swivel arch clip protrude very slightly from their mounting holes on the saw body.

The swivel clip itself is cannot be removed unless it is fully upright and clear of the two upright plastic prongs on the saw body which effectively stop it from being 'squeezed' inwards. The swivel clip requires a fair bit of pinch pressure to release it from its mounting holes.

When the air filter cover is re-mounted, two plastic prongs on the bottom of the air filter cover mate with the two upright prongs on the saw body to stop any sideways movement of the the swivel clip throughout its entire vertical swing. The clip cannot be removed unless the mounting holes have cracked or the plastic prongs have broken.

My swivel is painted black as opposed to your silver coloured one so it is possible that a redesign has been made.

Mines black too so I'm hoping it's the same thing. I did have a fiddle when I first got it but after this I'll be checking again. Not gonna be dropping this one on the strop though, I like that the lanyard loop is positioned so you can slip it strait on a carry tool like the husky topper
