Hi, would this be the right time of year to prune oak?

Trees are young 5+ year old.

Some are nice straight trunk and a lot have several dominant leaders.

Some are also sending out growth from ground like suckers.

Conflicting info online. Any good guide online please.

Thank you for any advice.

I would have thought at that age you could do what you like, when you like.

I've got some 1" diameter saplings on a bank near me that get tractor flailed a couple of times a year, always come back.

Yes timber.

I also need to be careful when spraying for weeds

i dont get cuts/wounds.maybe spray theb prune.

Mid-late summer treesurus thank you.

Alot of info on US sites were saying spring were

putting oaks down as similar to walnuts.

If it's for timber, the time of pruning is relevant for at least 2 reasons. As treesrus said, they heal over fast. 2nd thing is if you do during full leaf in summer, the shade in place helps stop regrowth of shoots exactly where you just pruned them off. As I understand it, anyway.

I would think Oak suckers are very rare:confused1: Can you take a photo? Has anyone else seen it? I don't think I have.
