Hell of an echo in here...

Been putting this off for some time - wondering if I can face the inevitable laughter from readers! Clearly I would not spend my own money on one but this new Echo CS-600 came my way recently and I was asked what I thought of it. Needless to say, I imagined my previous experience of echo saws would be repeated; poor power to weight ratio, irritating features like poxy ignition switches, sprocket covers etc. Had a CS-510 until recently - reasonably fast cutting but just irked me off so it went. Interestingly, all the annoying features remain but to such a less degree that I continued using it for a whole day on small felling and cross-cutting and then some firewood. On paper it compares with the Stihl MS341 in terms of power/weight ratio. On reputation it has no chance. But, and this is the surprise, I was shocked; despite its low max rpm of 12,500 and running too big a bar imo (20") it really seems to cut well and is very smooth. But the biggest shock was the sheer balance of the thing - it simply has to be the best balanced saw I've ever picked up. There you go, a wee bedtime story!

It might look plasticky but it aint compared to some of the crap coming out of Germany and Sweden atm. It's actually beautifully put together with real attention to detail. Just like cars - German solidity or Japanese attn to detail.

Long term use will of course test its durability; a chance I might not get...
