Yes it is a nice log. Thanks to seb for selling me it. Hoping there may be one or two more to come off the same site but politics will decide.

We cut some oak in the winter but haven't extracted it yet , we are on an estate between Salisbury and Blandford ,might be too far for you ? If you are interested send me a text on 07867 971 473 and I will put you in touch with the estate forester you can discuss it with him. We were thinking of extracting it soon now the ground has dried up a bit. Nick

Dbh is 1200. Two very nice 4.8m stems out of it. First one ends around 1m diameter second one 900 diameter. One more 4.8m not as good bit still goid with one big side branch. And a bendy 6m on the end. Took one of the branches as well which will yield some 4 X2 fir the the porch roof.

Monster lump indeed. I've yet to see an oak of that quality up here. Crappy Scottish climate.

Hi look at Sotterley oak in suffolk

Very impressive indeed.

Stands of good Oak in Scotland are as much by accident as hard work. I've seen instances where everything has been done right, but by virtue of the ground and weather conditions, the trees are awful.

Surprised you say that, the Border country has/had outstanding oak, same in parts of the west coast.

Some of the big Scottish mills started off as hardwood mills. Jones were one of the biggest keel oak millers in the country.

It's not to say that there aren't some good oak woods, though they are very few and far between. I think they aren't restocking like once they were. Just a feeling really.
