Need to cover poisoned stumps?

Question

Hello

We had some tree surgeons round to cut down some ash trees and poison the stumps. From the little knowledge I've gained from the internet I was expecting the stump to be cut round the edge and the poison to be concentrated there, then the stumps covered with plastic.

However it looks like (was dark when I got home) the trunk has been scored deeply in a criss-cross pattern across the middle with the poison (white granules, looks a bit like salt) pushed into the cuts, and not covered with anything.

I'm wondering if I should cover with plastic bags before it rains?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Sounds like they have used amicide crystals, didn't know that stuff was still around. I don't think rain will harm it, it will dissolve it if anything.

As for the criss cross cuts, that does nothing. As you rightfully said the trunk should be scored around the circumference and the poison applied there

Thanks for the replies. I don't think the stumps aren't any bigger than 9 inches.

Heavy rain forecast for the weekend so still not sure if I'd better cover.

I'll try and find out exactly what type of poison they used....

Won't do any harm and may well prevent dispersion.
