CS40 Tips

Hello all, Im looking at doing training for CS40 Carry Out Pruning Operations in the near future and am wondering if anybody can provide some general advice. I understand it requires candidates to carry out a crown thin and crown reduction so mainly wondering what techniques/procedures I should be aware of for this type of work, in my past experience I have mainly done dismantles so not so familiar with this side of things.

I have had a look at NPTC sheets and it seems like work positioning, extent of reduction/thin, species of tree are all going to be important considerations. Im interested to hear from others who do this regularly on a commercial basis about what is learned with experience and so on.

Cheers

It's not rocket science, like you say you need to know about differant trees, % to take off but to be honest you just have to get up there and work steadly away thinking of the specs your given. read up but dont worry, its faily straight forward to be honest.

When i did mine i was asked a few questions on best times of year for prunning & different species responsies to different types of prunning so make sure you know what you're talking about, keep a cool head & take your time, also as mentioned above you can do this with just your silky

Cheers for the info guys. What about the positioning of the pruning cuts, should these always be at a growth point or do you just take off whatever you need to take off to reduce by required spec,

you should always prune back to good strong growth points, never top or tip. just wondering are you doing any training at all for this?
