Morning from a soggy, snowy Haute Savoie,

Please see the attached pics of a tool I found on a job in the summer, wondered if anyone had any ideas what it is?

I think it might be for levering something or a wood working tool but not sure?

Cheers,

Chris

If it weren't for the one end being formed into a spike, I'd have said it was a door lifter. For taking the weight when fitting/adjusting/lowering household doors.

Something like this:

Maybe it is that, coupled with a gouging tool. For when the door is to be retained; but the old frame is to come out.

Could it be some sort of stand? Like a wire birly/fence wire spinner?

Althou being square not ideal, just looks like some sort of collar half way up and u put the chisel bit into the ground up to the other bit that sticks out so always the same hieght??

Used to get a slightly similatr old tool like that for pulling thistle roots out but had a forked end and no collar.

It looks like a blacksmiths cut off tool

The spike is odd, they normally fit in the "hardie hole" of an anvil but who knows what peculiarities they get up to in Frenchieland

That's what I thought. Perhaps it's for hammering into a log, the spike goes into the log/bench and the flat bit down from the chisel end is used to hammer the thing into the log/bench?
