I have tried looking for a similer thread but could find one, so apologies if this has already been discussed.

Im looking for a twin axle trailer that doesnt cost a fortune but need it to be legal.

Does it have to have a plated weight stated on the trailer? I have come across some in Kgs, some in cwt and some with none.

Any advice would be real helpfull

Thanks!

If it was made post 1982 it needs a plate.

In theory an older one could be taken for inspection and plated but I don't know how to set about it.

I have a 1986 bateson tipper which I want to replace the axles on and must get round to finding out about single vehicle approval or scrap it.

Unsure on budget at the moment. Basically just been looking around to see what abouts.

So if its pre 1982 and doesnt have a plate its all about board? Just go by what the tyres and suspension are rated at?

If its post 1982 it has to have a plate or you cant legally tow it. Does it matter if its in kg or cwt?

Repairs dont need SVA.

I would think that if its in cwt then its quite old.

If it has no plate they look at the tyre ratings & add them all up & thats its max weight unless another marked part is lower.

You could have weight limits via

tyres

suspension

hitch

or the makers plate.

Not a repair but replacing with different axles as current tyres are 30 years old and no longer available, no other wheels and tyres fit the hubs and other hubs have no clearance under the chassis. Mind it may be possible to space out the current axles and have som wheel centres purpose drilled, just another thing waiting for my attention.
