When you buy a saw in a box , that washer is fitted between the saw and the clutch cover on one of the guide bar studs.

When a guidebar is fitted for the first time the washer is removed.

Who fitted the guide bar for the first time ?

If it was you ,then it is your fault and you owe your friend an apology.

I did fit the bar for the first time and no, I didn't fit it with the washer still intact.

I have spoken to him earlier this evening to ask him if he had removed the bar. He did to put an old one of his on so he wasn't using my chain. He put mine back in it's holder and bag. He ended up having to use mine and said he thinks he did fit the white washer in the slot where the bar adjuster is. :001_huh:He's agreed to replace the chain and apologised.

So where did the white washer come from? you say you didn't use it when you fitted the bar and chain, he removed your bar/chain initially and used his own, then put yours back on.

Any chance you put the packing washer back on the outside of the clutch cover for 'safe keeping' when you initially fitted the bar/chain, he found it when swapping the bar/chain and put it back inside the clutch cover?
