Timing belt on an 2003 ranger

Hey all, merry Christmas! I've just picked up a ford ranger with 80k on the clock, seems as though it's been looked after, though there was a bit of confusion over whether the timing belt had been done. So at the very least I am going to get it inspected, as it may well be years/20k over due.

Looking in the engine bay access seems pretty good. So I'm sorry of thinking of doing it myself, and was wondering if anyone could shine some light of the situation. Failing that, how much roughly should I expect to pay to get a garage to do the belt and the water pump?

Don't know, but if it's not in the service book and stamped I would get it done .

Yeah it's going to happen either way with out doubt, I was just wondering whether any owe had experience of doing one.

So far I'm absolutely chuffed with it though

Yeah mate I've done them, they really are easy.

Most people worry about timing belts but you ain't going to get an easier on to do than a ranger 2.5

Best thing for you to do is grab a Haynes manual or I could probably send you the etis timing belt instruction.

Takes 15 mins take the plastic cover off

No injection pump to worry about as its electric just makesure the 2 white marks on the crankshaft and the two yellow marks on the cam shaft line up fit the new belt and replace the plastic cover hob done

I think I paid €700 on a 2008, so if you can do it yourself all the better.

Mick I think yours is the tdci engine - I've got the old 2.5 td that seems to have been used in the older rangers. I may well be wrong though

That was my old ranger, the Mazda one. But I'll bow to your knowledge.

Might of been 2005, thinking about it.
