I use ladders as my main method of access. I also have no qualms about using a chainsaw from a ladder if the situation lends itself. Its like anything else, use your common sense.

Can you explain the circumstances when you'd be comfortable using a chainsaw while on a ladder steve...just curious

Many scenarios. A line of spindly trees/hedges being topped at the same height. I'd be more than happy to stick the ladder up, strop round at the top and go to work.

Removing a low limb on a tree, ladder up, strop on and get to work.

The notion of never ever using a chainsaw from a ladder is ludicrous to me i'm afraid. I will do whatever is the most efficient for whatever job i'm tackling, and will carry it out in a safe manner.

I'll echo Steves comments.

We've just repollarded 90 ivy smothered dirty pops with the knuckles at about 15'.

Wouldn't have fancied anyone's chances without a ladder, not if you wanted to make money.

It's very rare I'd use a chainsaw from a ladder without being stropped in, I should add.
