Anyone think this might work?

I'm basically thinking of making a powered arbor style trolley. I'm fairly creative and handy with a welder and I also have an old 041av power head in the shed. Have been toying with the idea of making a trolley using the power head with the addition of something like pushbike gears and mech to gear it down some, anyone think this would work?

My main concern is that the pushbike cogs are too weak and will just sheer under load but can't think of any other gearing off the top of my head. Any suggestions welcome

You could try the small gearbox off an old electric cement mixer like the 'belle', not looked into it myself but it might be viable, or an old small rotavater.

The gearbox are relatively high rev input to low speed output, and designed to handle a lot of load, and are simple self contained units.

Just a thought.:001_smile:

Instead of using the cogs from a pushbike, how about a set from a motorbike. They would be a bit more substantial. Of course you would need to adjust the chain to the desired length.

Good luck and I would be interested to see how your creation turns out.

or back axle off a ride on mower, its got wheels bearings gears etc everything you need. and strong enough, it has been done before, have a look on youtube.

Need to gear it down a bit more, a saw would run several times faster than a mower engine. I use a complete ride on to tow an arb style trailer for my firewood. Been known to drag a bigger twin wheel trailer on occasions

Have a look at the picture in the maintenance section petrol how old is old.

Barrie doesn't approve though
