We have made it so difficult to employ short term labour with employment and health and safety laws its no wonder there is a labour shortage . Imagine how many men of working age have walked from north Africa and the like this summer . These lads have bloody walked for months , many lads won't walk to the shop to help themselves . My point is if it was easier to employ them as casual labour some might want to take it further . Surely some of them will have the mind set to do this .

Eggs your right about sharing the marbles but it only takes one bad apple in a company for employers to tighten the purse strings .

As for taking on foreign health professionals , why not , another country has trained them or they have paid themselves to be trained and they come here to work and pay our tax .

Thats better .

Some employers/clients are knobs though. I do some work for one old boy and he's a right royal pain in the arse, good money is to be had, but is it worth it?

He gets invoiced at the end of each month, every month he tries to pick holes in my invoice, to no avail. Last month he said a pump that was delivered to my place was missing, it took Mrs Egg all last Sunday morning to work out where it was, guess what, I installed said pump in August, scanned copy and hard copy of job card sent to him, no apology! No doubt that when I bill him for Mrs Egg's time to locate (his lost pump) he'll moan about that.

It's got to the stage now that I won't take his phone calls, if he wants to contact us it is either by email or he speaks to Mrs Egg.

The problem is some people that run businesses get way above their station and think employees/subbies are fools that can be treated like dirt.

Maybe that's why there is a labour shortage?

Rant over

Bill him for the admin time sounds like what he deserves!!

Bosses can be a PITA and employees can be idle..... Swings & roundabouts no?

We were working at a dairy last week, smoking shelter outside main office building. For the full period we were there working, there were no less than 2 people in that shelter all day.

That would mean that at least 2 peoples' salaries per day (it's a 24hr / 365day operation) are lost to smoking.

You could put that down to slack management I guess.

Not sure there's a point to make here, just an observation really....

You sound like one of the good young lads same can't be said for all in my experience

There are plenty of us out there, though the media loves to sensationalise and feed the narrative that the younger generation of today is self-entitled and expects everything to be handed to them.

Perhaps that has something to do with parenting and culture, no? The Prussian schooling system employed in this country certainly doesn't help either.
