How good (or bad) are the Husqvarna 345 saws? I can get a second hand one for £100 with an 18" bar fitted. Belive it is a 45cc engine and wouldn't go any bigger bar wise but again read some bad reviews about this saw, so what's your opinions on it?

Thanks Midge.

The 345 semi pro saw, composit crankcase, clam shell design, not a bad saw, just make sure the muffler is tight and has not fallen off at some time or it will melt the top of the crankcase and cause oil leaks, also also the cylnder screws come up from the bottom, make sure these are tight.

The general rule for optimum bar size is cc divided by 3 so an 18" bar would be a bit slow on a 45cc saw, speed may not be an issue but 13" or 15" would cut better.

Great, second day on the forum and learnt something new again! Cheers NFG. Think I need to stop worrying about bar size as much too.

So a good saw just need to make sure it has been looked after in the right way, cheers.

I thought it was the general rule for MAX bar size . Optimum being something less .

I had one of these to cut my firewood and really liked it, the AVs were very good and the power on a 15" bar was also very good. Cut a fair bit with it and it was like a smaller version of the 346XP. Quite revvy and never felt out of power even cutting 12" oak.
