Been using a 28" chain on my 576 for a long time now. Sharp, it's quite happy through any of the hardwoods - I do a lot of elm with it. Do a lot of ringing up with an 18" bar which just makes me grin.

Personally having run my 576 on a 24" bar, I think it would cut wood, just don't go leaning into the cut. I partially base my opinion on my mate who tried a 30" bar& chain on his ms460, as these saws are pretty close on spec; let's say, cutting with the full length of bar was.... Well wasn't great. For the one of job, just be patient

we have two of these one AT and a old one both are ported the AT one rips with a 28"bar and I have had a 36" on it at times..i have moded lots of these..
