Honda 4 stroke hedgetrimmer (Hobby weekend warrior)

Hi guys,

Client has just given me his newish looking '4 stroke' Honda hedge

trimmer to look at,as it conks out quite regularly when turned on either side

I am totally unfamiliar with this new 4 stroke tech.:-)

Is it really a small 4 stroke engine?

Does anyone know if these new Honda machines have issues as I had to take a look at a Honda strimmer which also had issues.the build quality seems quite low.

Does it have somewhere to top it up with oil? If yes its a 4 stroke and not a 4-mix. Don't know if Honda even do a 4-mix

It will be s mini 4 stroke . They have been making them for years. Git a 15 year old 4 stroke Honda brushcutter.that still starts first pull(or second !!) point being they are good little engines just a bit heavy.

I have a Stihl 4-stroke strimmer with the Honda 4 stroke engine. Starts so easily compared to 2 strokes.

I have a honda 4 strokes trimmer build quality is ok but I think they are made in China. Sounds like the fuel filter pick up may be hooked up. Mine runs clean like a watch starts first pull bit under powered and heavy. Valves need a tiny clearance and are sensitive to this adjustment. I have been running mine on a fully syn thin oil designed for top end Porsche engines and it seems to love it.

I had a similar problem with my honda trimmer. I spent ages looking for the problem, in the end I took it to a Honda dealership. It turned out to be the clearance on the valves were out and needed adjusting. I have also changed the fuel that I use. I now use premium unleaded on all small engines that I own. I am not sure if this will help, but I just want to give it every chance to stay running.

How would one proceed towards adjusting valve gaps on such a small engine?
