  2. 1. buy container (chinese peoples republic or PRC) full of 9v wood moisture detectors.the ones that only read 17%. these were available 10yrs ago. 2.most log buyers do know the difference between seasoned wood. 3..what idiot burns green wood anyway? 4.after paying the costs/fees associated with the government laws mebe we could raise the cost of logs per load so it is worth doing finally.. i bust a gut working coppice in decent hardwood woodlands between tree surgery with no help like farmers recieve yet we are guardians of the countryside and actively promote regeneration, unlike the arable/dairy/meat industry with all the chemical and diesel fuel involved...thats my rant over..g'day
  3. The first few bosses i had were really quite aggresive characters and almost put me off arboriculture for good...one of them used to argue so much with his son they would have loud shouting fits in customers gardens!! he walked onto a swimming pool cover carrying his work notepad..years of notes on customers gone in seconds..
  4. One of my first bosses(norfolk) used to smoke superkings like they were going out of fashion,he was stick thin and aged around 50 but boy he could climb..others climbing on 5 ply rope with stihl 020 AV saws wearing jeans..i got caught reading one 70 yr old irish boss's new daily newspaper before he had read it and he nearly sacked me..that guy actually pulled my rope into a tree as i was descending and i whacked my foot so hard against the trunk i ended up limping to A&E..there are other old school boss's who i seem to respect more as time goes on and even have fond memories!!..seeing as the recent flock of millenials seem so shy of hard work.
  5. i believe the husqvarna 550xp auto tune is exceptional..can be awkward to start when hot,but its never missed a beat in 3 yrs hard use..? i look forward to using the new stihl fuel injected saw.
  6. Young trees planted with a rootball need a 2 yr watering plan..roughly twice weekly watered here in the uk..thats our summers..You have come to the right conclusion..Non native will always struggle despite watering..MG
  7. Hi Does anybody know what firms are recruiting in jersey ci? cheers. hazelnut
  8. How would one proceed towards adjusting valve gaps on such a small engine? Cheers Matt gd
  9. Hi guys, Client has just given me his newish looking '4 stroke' Honda hedge trimmer to look at,as it conks out quite regularly when turned on either side I am totally unfamiliar with this new 4 stroke tech.:-) Is it really a small 4 stroke engine? Does anyone know if these new Honda machines have issues as I had to take a look at a Honda strimmer which also had issues.the build quality seems quite low. Cheers Hazelnut in kent

  13. hi i have just purchased an old 066 with plenty of grunt but it seems to destroy the plastic roll cage bearing in the clutch/brake drum which are made out of plastic ! and after reving the saw up it always blitzs them.are they all made from plastic now.maybe i shouldnt put red grease on them when they are new. i have a original part being sent to my local dealer but some of their staff agree it will be a plastic cage with metal rollers.it seems to fit nicely but the old 066 screams through timber.any ideas how i could stop this problem..cheer ,matt hazelnut tree care east kent
  14. i live in a hornbeam woods so have plenty of that,i like the hazel burring over metal ring and cherry ideas.will try them and let you know.holly is also rock hard as ive had a load for burning a season ago.lovely grain pattern.
  15. hi ive just serviced the machine with all new kubota parts.the hydraulic tank air filter and hyd oil filter were in awful condition and the in-line fuel filter was a non genuine cheapy which looked like it wasnt ever holding enough fuel anyway the original filter looks pukka and has fuel allround it.if it still does it i will then go through the electrical switches one by one..
  16. i am trying to make my own wooden shafts for my 3 x wedges,i tried elm and it dried out to a very light shaft and snapped...any idea what i could use here in the uk,maybe ash? does anybody know what the original wooden shafts are made from? i know i could buy the shafts but i like to make my own wooden bits n bobs..
  17. any ideas where i can get parts instead of randys repair shop in the states..? gonna try the coil and tank breather..
  18. i had a large dying robinia once for firewood and ended up with over a ton or two of rubbish stem/cord wood.it dried to a very light wood like eucalyptus and wasnt too good for burning either..other people have said to me they thought it was ok but i wouldnt use it for firewood again.maybe for bulking out loads.it does have a lovely deep unusual colour and i think would be well worth milling or sanding down..
  19. sorry to hear abt the theft...w**k*rs! i use a long quality motorcycle chain when leaving gear in my landy.locked up to a solid part of the truck, never overnite though. i know other guys who have had gear nicked from the back of the trucks when in slow traffic so we always secure the tools together with tool strops/lanyard/karabiner..
  20. whats the 'hold in coil' and where is it on a 2004 machine? thanks matt hazelnuttreecare
  21. the fuel tank is always kept from getting to low,it may have crud in it but the kubuta runs like a jem 99%.the clear in-line filter never seems to have much diesel in it even when running flat out.like i say it only happens when i start it and rev up top end straight away.i used these chippers for years with norwich city council when entec first brought them out and never had one do this.it has done over 800 hours tho !! duh !!
  22. Hi,me again, i have a timberwolf chipper 150 dhb 2004 that has been running great but every now and then it when i start it up full throttle to chip it dies out immediatly stalling. then when i start it,it always works fine after the stall, the in-line fuel filter is clean.it seems like the stop switch has been activated but they all seem good and work fine.could it be that the engine needs to tickover for a minute before revving up so the filter doesnt run dry or get air in it or could it be a relay.i know these machines have a very simple system & reliable. regards Matt
