Paint for fireplace with wood burner in

I've now fitted my woodburner and it all seems fine except it smells burning paint, chemically like when stripping paint with heat or burning old timber with paint on. Now, I asked in wickes about paint but they didn't know their ass from their elbow so I painted inside the fireplace with first exterior masonry paint to seal the rough brick work then emulsion. Both water based. Now it stinks the whole house out when I light it. I think I need to repaint it but which paint? Do I need to strip off all the old paint first? Or should I line it with something?

Thanks will

The way your stove is set back like it is, you may benefit from using an ecofan to get more heat out into the room

Couple people said I should have stood it out into the room to get more heat but it is plenty warm enough!

May get an eco fan in the winter tho
