I only climbing very occasionally and although my kit is in good condition it is a few years old now.

Just wandering when you should retire equipment because of its age? Its always been kept indoors in my kit bag as far as storage goes.

Loler actually highly recommend inspections every 6 months on kit that go unused for long periods as mechanical devices can degrade internally without the user noticing any outer signs if wear.

Speculation is dangerous and much of what went before is wrong

 

Kit used commercially needs to be inspected.

 

6 months for PPE and 12 months for rigging

What ive said is bang on.Never known climbing kit to be referred to as PPE .

Climbing kit is considered as PPE

It's personal protective equipment that stops you falling out the tree!

 

Yeah not questioning it just sayin never heard of ropes,harnesses etc being referred too as PPE.
