google search suggests it's a machine for applying electrostatically charged insecticide to nursery stock prior to dispatch, to give all round application.

Yes this is it. The hourly pay rate is higher due to the close proximity and time spent working with such chemicals.

Some apparent side affects I have heard are that it can cause infertility and neurological damage, not to mention it doesn't smell great and can be a problem for those who are allergic.

I was just after some concrete information on these claims as I've not been able to find much on the web and am apprehensive on beginning such work if these are genuine risks.

Thanks.

In general it's a pretty nasty environment the fumes are strong! My folks had the contract for the one at kielder for the FC with one of there friends, I think he still is running it now but due to other circumstances my folks pulled out when they won the second term... On the plus side your working indoors when it's the worse weather and it's good money !

Yes, did it for a few years, wearing loads of chemical suit/gloves etc and following strict dressing/undressing and washing etc critical, is essential; any chemical contact with skin serious. Sinuses and nose etc can run like you have a cold, very boring and repetitive work, no better than standing on a factory production line, repetitive strain injuries to back/ hands/ shoulders etc. glad I don't do it any more even though good £'s are possible if you can work fast enough, paid by the 1000, so if you can do 40,000 / day (depends on how big the trees are, small trees faster, but there is no choice!) worth doing, also the planters can't plant if ground frozen, so if it is -0deg for long there is little or no work.
