I would have thought a 3.5 tonne rated winch would get you out of most things, and pull over the kind of trees you want to.

 

Snatch block would double that up to 7 tonne, so not to shoddy.

 

I wonder if they are concerned about putting a powerful winch on and damaging the vehicle. If you had the bigger winch, 4.3 tonne pull, doubled up on a snatch block, 8.6 tonnes, you could probably do some damage to the chassis?

 

The main thing to remember about winching off a small vehicle is to anchor the back of the vehicle to something first, otherwise the winch will just pull the vehicle along. Probably right under where you want to drop the tree.....

 

Your 130 could end up as a 140.....

we are catagorically not allowed to anchor our landys back to something when winching for many a reason. We have to use wheel chocks that dig in the ground I'll take some pics tomorrow if you want.

David as long as you are running a hyd winch which i believe both ramseys are (or PTO winch,) you can get away with a 3,5 tonner and snatch block. These winches will also take the strain of pulling deadweight with loads of friction to overcome which is the reality of winching timber around.

for many reasons peter, mainly because if doubled up we can have 8 ton pull, so the theory is we could actually cause damage to the vehicle/chassis if it was anchored from the back. the towbar is designed for just that towing so we have no more rear facing attachments. if we cant pull it out with the wheel chocks holding the vehicle then its game over and fetch a tractor. thats the delights of working for a h&s obssessed outfit

the wheel chocks dig into the ground, if it pulls the vehicle and chocks we just get the heavy mob in with the tractor winch!
