I think tubex are the best tree shelter... I get mine from alba trees. tbh I think all the suppliers will be fairly similar in price...

Perhaps someone local to you has some used ones? After about five years some people remove them by cutting them. I've used the cut ones again and they seem OK. The rigidity of the plastic means they still retain their shape.

As I wish to graze some sheep under the trees I doubt the spirals would work. I like the idea of using guards a second time and had thought about this myself. I would be happy to take any second hand guards from the national forest if anyone has any 1.2 m. Does anyone have any experience of lightly grazing under planted trees?

Tubex are the best. Try greentech for a price. If your going to have sheep grazing in the area you MUST protect them with a fence, otherwise the sheep WILL push over and rub against the guards.

I planted trees where sheep graze.

I used a second stake at 45 degrees to secure the main stake. it's generally worked OK :)

I'd imagine if you don't put too many sheep amongst the trees you should be OK.
