Yeah I agree mate. If specimen/old trees or I suppose any tree worth retaining can be left in piece just by putting up a few signs and/or roping the area off then yeah I can see the point clearly and would support it.

I just didnt think it would be viable in this situation.

Dont take my slightly but unintentional sarcastic comment to heart, taking the piss is the only thing I am moderately good at!:001_tongue:

I wouldn't think roping off or putting up signs would be viable in any school ground, just merely a reply in response to others suggestions that a flawed tree in a public place should be felled. With that view there be far fewer trees about.

If i couldn't take a bit of sarcasim i'd of choosen a different job:001_rolleyes:

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the tree is hardly a top specimen - but it is in a fairly tree-less estate so it feels pretty valuable in its setting! Unfortunately I condemned a number of trees at this site so I guess my heart was telling me to ease up and stop the genocide!

Best not to get too emotional about these things though huh?!

i thing i would use Q.T.R.A for a situation like this , why not qtra assess it as it stands and then re assess it as if it were to have a cobra brace , the evaluate your findings and see if the tree could be retained ?? this is only an idea tho , i have been thinking about doing the QTRA course but dont think that many courses are ever held down this way !!!
