The 45cc version revs higher, which can be an asset for limbing - but the 50cc NE version surely is stronger, and more useful as an allround saw.

 

Agreed, they both port well if you look on the tube

 

Id go for it if the price is right

I have a 346XP

 

Did 12 years before piston / barrel issues - best saw ever.

 

Fitted non OEM piston/barrel kit - running perfectly - time will tell.

 

I'd pay £ 350 if comp. good and it only had little use.

Well it's bought, sounds and cuts well. I think there's a fuel leak now that it's home and I've had a longer run with it but nothing that can't be fixed.

If the fuel leaks when it is on its side, especially just after the filler cap is done up, fit a new fuel line - they go hard and the fuel pushes past it around where the line goes in to the tank - just another day, tra la la la la............

We've had a bunch of Stihl and Husky's with fuel line issues - especially if like us you keep them for years, wanting to get every last revolution we can from them!

 

Changing them on all saws over 3 years now - low cost insurance. Some would disagree of course.

Cheers for the tip, it's needing a good clean up. So far revs nicely, starts when cold and hot as per my 50cc so happy

 

It's getting put through it's paces tomorrow with a sycamore and alder to log up.

Then switch to aspen and never change them again !

I owned both and several of them. OE just less torque in cut and needs light hand and 325 chain. The NE loves 3/8 chain for bucking cuts.

 

The OE can be ported to run with NE that has been ported. If the porter knows what he is doing.

 

Also make sure you do the updates to the OE. Replace that plastic intake clamp before it warps and burns the saw up. = air leak. You can redneck the old partion and use 372 clamp or buy the updated kit. Have all the numbers on CSR posted already. If you need a copy paste here let me know.
