Climber, truck and chipper

So, let me get this right, you want £300-£350/day for you, your truck and chipper as a subbie, yet a two man crew are only charging £450-£500...... Where is the main contractor making money?

I charge myself out at £150 a day. Have since I started. Surely a tipper and chipper is worth at least £150 a day?

The main contractor will then put whatever he or she wants on top of that. Up to them.

Whether it be one of their full time groundies or another freelance groundie. They'll still make money on top of that without having the running costs of sending out a second team.

Come on, a man, a truck and chopper for £150 a day? That is just bloody stupid. I'm baffled at how you can make a living.

Forget making any money on your tipper, most run transits or trailers, i only provide mine as it allows me down time to unload at home and have a cup of tea before going back to do the next load, as i said, i need the timber and can use the wood chip, so it then boils down to chipper, and you can't charge much for something that's unreliable, but you have to be comparable to local hire companies, if you have the latest kit you're one step above the hire companies . What you would like and what you will get are two very different margins. :thumbup1: work smart. i charge £1 per mile travel money, every bit helps

You've said in this thread that a two man gang in your area are charging £450-£500/day, so, lets assume that's what the market in your area can stand.

If you want £300-£350 as a subbie/climber, truck and chipper, then the company are supplying a groundie on £100/day, I still cannot see the working profit for the main contractor?

Agreed, find your own work at at least double your income, that kind of money you should be able to get with a hedge cutter and a bicycle!

Would you pay a climber with a truck and chipper £300-£350/day?

If I didn't have a truck and a chipper than I would as I pay £140 for a climber, then I charge my chipper out on jobs at £120 so that's not far off the mark eggs.

My mate is a jobbing gardener, he gets £130 a day and the customer provides the tools, he is booked 5 days a week all year round.

So, you wouldn't pay £300-£350 then!

Come on Hodge, everyone and his dog has got a truck.
