Climber, truck and chipper

In addition to this earlier quote of mine and to make my point clearer, I spoke to a guy recently who is near me. He has a tipping Landy and a trailer. He has a fee for him as a groundie with his Landy but would not separate the two.

(BTW, he didn't have any work)

I explained that i can use a freelance groundie a lot and his Landy (for additional fee) occasionally. He replied that he has to drive to my yard in his Landy therefore he'll charge a day rate for it's use wether it's used by me or not.

Guess how much work he has got from me as a result?

:laugh1::laugh1:

If he'd come in as a freelance groundie and proved himself he'd have found that I'd start paying for his Landy a LOT because it saves me the expense of buying another vehicle.

Freelancers must be flexible, adaptable and smarter than the average if they want to be paid more than the average.:thumbup1:

Charging for its use just to get to your yard? Bit misguided I reckon.

I could use my wife's Peugeot to get to work if I wanted too, but I use my hilux, for a number of reasons. One is that if for whatever reason it could be useful on a job it can be used....and most guys I work for pay a bit extra for it.

The tipper will be the same principle. If they want it on a job, Then I'd charge for its use, already have one job in sept where it's going out.

I am just in a position where I really want to start pushing hard to get my own work and having a chipper is pretty essential to be productive. At the moment it's just trickling in with not much effort on my part if I'm honest. So with a big push I'm hoping to get the name about.

There is the money there for a chipper although storing it may be an issue at the moment. I have access to a chipper for £80 a day from my old boss but as work starts to pick up for him he will more than likely be sending two teams out again so the chipper may be harder to get.

Just wondering if there was a market for an experienced climber, truck and chipper in the glos, worcs and warwks areas.

Also, what would people expect to pay for the above?

Looking at getting my own work but subbing out whilst getting started. Have regular work just doing the contract climbing but is a van and chipper more of a draw?

Truck not sign written.

Cheers

Dan

Climber ,groundy with aerial rescue ,unwritten truck and chipper is the way forward if you are after sub contract work. Shove mag signs on it when doing your own work, its not really a complete package without a groundy. Rates are regional so I wont comment ,also there can be a huge difference in rate depending on capabilities. Its great to see lads get off their arse and have a go :thumbup1:

I try not to work on day rates, but 2 men and kit must be 400+vat any less and you might aswell stop at home.

I agree, £400 plus vat for a day for 2 men is about right but like you Ian try never to work on a day rate to the customer. I charge by the job and that's that.

Day rates are for building sites where things change by the hour not domestics, but some round me still have totally knackered kit and still do day rates!
