Grandfather rights for pesticide spraying

Just received the work book for the grandfather rights pesticide spraying course. I have never been trained to used a knapsack sprayer and have only used one to spray nettles etc. in my woodland. the assessment looks very hard and there is loads of criteria to learn. Is anyone or has anyone else taking/taken the assessment yet. Not sure if it is worth taking it as I am 70 and find studying for the assessment a lot to take in.

I've done my PA1 and PA6 if that's what you mean, but I don't know anything about a grandfather rights course. I thought grandfather rights meant that you could operate without needing to hold the certificate. Although you'd obviously need to stick to rules, regs and best practise, so without doing the training I could never figure out how people operating under grandfather rights would know what they were, so it would make sense to me for you to do the course, even if you don't need to do the assessment due to grandfather rights.

Recently did my PA6AW it looks a lot worse than it is on the day, the assessor was excellent. The course it self was well laid out not to taxing and the course notes were not to confusing. The maths was the only bit that made me think a bit.

grand father rights were granted to anybody born before January 1964 but these are to be withdrawn this December . There is a transitional course that is not the full PA1 but it will only allow you to spray on your own land and you will have to already have the grandfather rights . If you don't get your PA1 and another module PA2/ 6 then you will not be able to purchase professional / agri chemicals and that will stop you , but some people manage to buy guns without a firearm license ! I guess we have to do it for insurance and create a lot of jobs and burden customers with more overheads .

I would of said don't bother taking a course, but the above statement probably means you will have to.

This is correct, PA1 and 6 will be required to be able to obtain the suitable chemicals required for the job, I'm a Greenkeeper by trade and have had to do the certs for my job, you can spray without a cert on your own property but you'd be better off peeing on the weeds rather than waste your money on the premixed B'S you'll get at your local garden centre, any reputable dealer/agri supplier worth his salt will NOT sell you the real McCoy !...
