261 replacement?

My stihl 261 has needed few things done to it under warranty lately usual needle bearing failure, new carb as the mtronic went toys up and it is now in at dealers not starting due to no spark. Warranty runs of shortly and thinking that it could turn into a costly exercise to keep it.

Question is should I replace it and if so with what? Local stihl dealer is top class but the husky ones are possibly not.

Echo cs-550? I've been buying echo for everything recently, does what's asked without any fuss and is built to last, on top you get two years commercial warranty. On the downside none if the kit is quite as fast or light as comparative stihl or husqvarna kit. My go to tools are all echo unless the don't make it I.e. 660 size saws.

All saws have pros and cons

The 261 is universally hated by everyone who has ever used it

Mine blows bearings every couple of days due to worn shaft blows chain brake bands and lots of other things.

It stays at home now

That is what I'm thinking. Bought a big 9010 from Andrew earlier in the year.

I do like the 261 but it's a pita if it is not going.

I have all Husqvarna , 2 of which are A/T . All running fine on Aspen but lots of people struggle with them . If you want " old school " no fuss well made saws talk to Andrew again ....Simples :001_smile:

Possibly a slight overstatement ?

agreed, I had a 261 which was stolen so bought a 550xp to see what the fuss was about, having lived with it for 6 months I would prefer the 261 as never had a problem with it, cut really well (better than the 260) and it started when I pulled the cord no matter the temperature!!!
