Railway sleeper fixings

Thanks guys I think I will probably end up concreting some posts in behind the wall to be hidden slightly below the earth level rather than metal posts.

Interesting idea the ratchet strap can see the idea of it working not sure how long until it would rot down under the earth.

Mike how thick are the shims you use does this leave a noticeable gap between the sleepers of just enough for the water to escape

I suggest postcrete instead of concrete, bulked out with rubble. The important bit is width of the hole in the direction of the wall. Last one I did I got the post in place and wedged a 450 slab in front of it then filled around with dry postcrete then hydrated.

4 inch treated posts set vertically with postfix behind the sleepers. Timber lock screws to fasten them together. Always over-engineer everything, especially the depth of the post holes. If seepage is likely to be an issue then drill some weep holes through the sleepers.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys. I've ordered some 4 inch posts and will be looking sinking them 3ft down with some postcrete. I've got a load of timberland screws can't remember how much they were now but not extortionate. I like the idea of the geotex I have a load at home so will probably use that as well every little helps I definitely like to over engineer things just so I don't worry about them 😀
